    Job Summary: Under general direction of the Police Sergeant, the Police Officer performs law enforcement and crime prevention duties to maintain citizen safety, protection of life and property, and compliance with City, State and Federal Laws. Participates in planning of programs, policies or objectives for own work group and department.

     

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

     

    • Performs routine police patrol as a deterrent to crime, to ensure law compliance and investigate suspicious activities, individuals, or conditions.
    • Respond to calls for assistance and provide necessary police response and/or protection.
    • Issues citations and/or warnings to violators when appropriate.
    • Make arrests of individuals who violate the law and/or ordinances.
    • Subdue violent individuals
    • Conduct preliminary investigation of crimes and crime scenes to uncover and collect/document relevant evidence and/or testimony.
    • Prepare and maintain reports as required.
    • Investigate traffic accidents and direct traffic.
    • Testifies in court as needed.
    • Respond to reports of sick, injured or mentally ill persons.
    • Maintains weapons and equipment assigned.
    • Interact with the community to establish partnerships and relationships.
    • Answers citizen calls for police assistance.
    • Maintains weapon proficiency.
    • Conducts search and rescue operations.
    • Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
    • Attend training for professional development

    Job Title:             Communications Operator

    Job Summary: Responsible for responding to emergency and non-emergency calls for law enforcement, fire department, and emergency medical services as well as animal control; identifies and dispatches appropriate public safety units, complies with city policies and procedures to ensure the safety of all public safety responders and the public.

     

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

     

    • Provides public safety dispatch services for emergency and non-emergency purposes for various agencies; keeps track of a wide variety of public safety responders, resources, personnel, incidents, and trends.

       

    • Receives, screens, and takes appropriate action on all emergency service calls to include 911 calls from the public requesting law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services; determines nature and location of emergency, determines priority, dispatches appropriate emergency responders/units as necessary in accordance with established department policies and procedures; relays pertinent information to law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services.

       

    • Enters emergency assistance call information into computer aided dispatch; determines location of call; inputs, modifies, confirms and validates information into TLETS system and computer aided dispatch system, enters data for reports and records, processes forms and record files; queries system databases as requested; maintains records and files in accordance with established standards.

       

    • Provides information, instructions and assistance to the public within scope of authority; provides detailed call information to first responders as needed; maintains states and awareness of unit locations; monitors message traffic and relays information required.

       

       

    • Receives and relays information regarding incidents and other activities to appropriate agencies and staff.

       

    • Performs inquiries and criminal history checks, for agency law enforcement staff through TLETS; collects statistical data reports; updates and ensures the accuracy of the database.

       

    • Adheres to TLETS and CJIS administrative and security requirements, criminal history dissemination, etc., s required; ensures proper training for state licensing requirements.

       

    • Enters, and clears department warrants; coordinates efforts with other agencies.

       

    • Leads and/or participates in specific projects related to the department or office to which assigned and will provide project/program update summaries and analysis as needed.

       

    • Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the department’s services to the citizens and by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.

       

    • Represents the City with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with agency staff and the public.

     

    • Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster, as directed by appropriate manager(s).

    Starting salary: $52,000

     

    Job Summary:

    City of Brookshire Government is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Grant Writer to join our team. The Grant Writer role will be responsible for researching, drafting, and submitting grant proposals on behalf of the city of Brookshire and its various departments. This role is crucial in securing funding to support the city’s development initiatives and community projects. The Grant Writer will work closely with the Mayor and Council, and the administration to identify funding opportunities and ensure successful grant applications. This professional position requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Knowledge of and adherence to the policies and procedures is required. Occasional travel may be required at the assignment of the Mayor and Council.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Research Funding Opportunities: Identify and research potential grant opportunities from government agencies, foundations, and other funding sources that align with the city’s needs and priorities.

    • Draft Grant Proposals: Write clear, compelling, and comprehensive grant proposals, including narratives, budgets, and supporting documentation to government, foundations, and other grantmaking organizations to earn grant revenue. 

    • Coordinate Grant Applications: Collaborate with city departments and external partners to gather necessary information, letters of support, and other materials required for grant submissions. This will require the study and understanding of the City of Brookshire history, structure, objectives, programs, and financial needs. 

    • Grant Management: Track the status of submitted grants, maintain a database of funding sources and grant outcomes, and manage reporting requirements for awarded grants.

    • Liaison: Serve as a point of contact between the city and funding agencies, maintaining strong relationships and ensuring compliance with grant requirements.

    • Support Development Projects: Assist with other economic and community development projects as assigned by the Mayor and Council.

    • Other Duties: Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as directed by the Mayor and Council.

    Qualifications:

    • Education: High School Diploma Required; Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Public Administration, or a related field preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted. 

    • Experience: Experience in government or nonprofit sectors or experience in grant writing, proposal development, and fundraising is preferred. Development of budgets is a plus.
